David Kortava is an editor at Foreign Affairs and a 2024 Alicia Patterson Foundation fellow. He has also reported for The New Yorker on a range of subjects, including Russia’s “filtration camps” in eastern Ukraine — a cover story supported by the Pulitzer Center. His work has also appeared in The Nation, Harper’s Magazine, and The New York Times Book Review.
Kortava was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, grew up mostly in New Jersey, studied international affairs at Columbia University, and served in the Peace Corps in South Africa.
